ABOUT THE CKRC DIGITAL ARCHIVE

ABOUT THE KATIBA RESOURCE DATABASE

The Katiba Resource Database (KARD) aims to provide digital materials on the Kenya constitution-making processes, with a particular focus on past constitutions, amendments, and the CKRC and COE processes, which paved the way for the 2010 Constitution of Kenya. The Database also contains articles and commentaries concerning the constitution.

Specifically, the Database contains copies of past Constitutions, documents on the Lancaster process, the various amendments made to the independent constitution. The database contains many CKRC documents. This is not accidental. Most of the provisions in the current Constitution of Kenya owe a great of debt to the work done by the CKRC, which engaged in a comprehensive constitutional making process that was highly participatory.

Currently there are no formally organized records of this magnitude of the constitution making process in Kenya and as such we hope that this database will be a useful resource to researchers, scholars, judges, civil society and any other person or sector in Kenya constitutional developments.
The Katiba Resource Database is a living archive and will be continuously updated with useful and relevant constitutional materials.
